Extensions

Extensions are additional commands and features that you can install and run with ActiveData. Extensions are workbooks containing Visual Basic For Applications (VBA) code to implement a set of commands or features.

Anyone with knowledge of VBA can create and share extensions with others. A number of extensions are included when you install most versions of the software. You can extend them or create new extensions based on them.

You can import and export extensions from and to Zip files and then share them with others via email or by posting them on the web.

Some other things to note about Extensions are:
  • Extensions are a convenient way of managing and sharing Excel macros.
  • Extensions can be used on forums like those at MrExcel.com as a way to provide users with code solutions without them having to copy and paste or deal with Excel's VBA editor.
  • Extensions are based purely on Excel and there are no costs associated with using them or creating them.
  • It is easy to convert existing Excel macros to the Extension format.
  • Over time, we hope to build a free extension library at MrExcel.com. Extensions are likely to evolve based on feedback from people who create and use them so please feel free to post your questions, comments and suggestions on the Easy-XL forum at MrExcel.com.
